Bill Founds started the ministry in Hattiesburg, MS. in 1985. Upon moving to Mobile, AL. Bill and his wife Sandra started ministering in the Mobile Metro Jail. At this point in time there was no chapel or meeting rooms so they ministered in individual cells. In 2003 Promises of Life (POL) became a corporation 501(c) 3 in the state of Alabama. POL volunteers were ministering to Holman Prison, Mobile Metro Jail, Mobile Work Release Center, and Martin Boot Camp.
Bill had the vision of seeing men leaving prison with the skills needed to transition back into society in a positive way. In order to accomplish that goal Bill help start the GED program in Metro County Jail which has graduated hundreds of students. Bill became a Chaplain at Mobile Work Release Center and started several programs with the help of many volunteers.
Classes were started and training provided on computers, finance, Basic electrical and helping individuals get CDL licenses, also long distance dads, and most excellent way. Bill also started the gift of Love which provided Christmas gifts to children with an incarcerated parent.
In Mobile Work Release Center and Metro jail, religious services were conducted daily. Also had several days of ministry with Christian speakers and worship leaders. POL volunteers also provided home cooked meals to inmates and officers on duty.
Due to heath reasons Bill had to step down, but POL continued on, adding new board members and volunteers. A yearly banquet is held each year to raise money for the ministry You can also donate on our web site to the ministry and help us fund our programs.
We have two transitional houses that house men released from prison temporally until they can get housing on their own.
POL volunteers help the men get Licenses, apply for jobs, clothing and food. While staying at a Transition House rules are firmly enforced and Bible studies and church attendance are mandatory. We are currently raising money to open a large Transition House with several bedrooms to help more men reestablish themselves in the community and become productive citizens and reduce the recidivism rate in Alabama.
Dan Ward 4/18/1953 - 2/13/2024 Sadley our brother lost his battle with cancer on February 13, 2024. While we rejoice with the fact that he is with Jesus now. We are all sadden with the loss of our friend and Chairman of the Board of Promises Of Life Prison Ministry he will be missed by all.
Position ex-offenders to become law-abiding citizens; help provide them with food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and family reconciliation in order to help lower the recidivism rate in the state of Alabama.
